South Carolina delegates heard from several prominent Democrats on Wednesday morning as they prepare for Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. State Sen. Vincent Sheheen, former governor Dick Riley, South Carolina native and former Charlotte Mayor Harvey Gantt, and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar spoke at a breakfast meeting for delegates from the Palmetto State.
Riley, who was U.S. Secretary of Education under President Clinton, spoke about the differences between the education plans of President Obama and Mitt Romney:
Gantt, who was the first African-American student admitted to Clemson University, spoke about the challenges of being a black politician in the South as he tried to motivate Democrats from the Palmetto State:
