Across America, many opponents of marriage equality are participating in Mike Huckabee’s
marketing strategy counter-protest in support of Chick-fil-A. That includes Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, shown chowing down on some chicken strips and waffle fries Wednesday to show his approval of the anti-gay restaurant.
Graham has consistently voted against marriage equality during his time in Congress, and has been awarded 0% ratings by the Human Rights Campaign and ACLU for his stance on that and other civil rights issues.
U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) apparently wanted to show that he REALLY supports Chick-fil-A, and practically buried himself under a mound of greasy, bigoted deliciousness:
Chick-fil-A drew national criticism recently when its president, Dan Cathy, admitted that the company actively opposes same-sex marriage. In recent years, Chick-fil-A has donated millions to anti-marriage equality causes through its WinShape Foundation.
Elsewhere in the Palmetto State, a Wendy’s franchisee got in trouble with the national office for posting signs on the marquees of his stores in North and South Carolina reading “We stand with Chick-fil-A.” The national Wendy’s office made him take down the signs, announcing “We proudly serve ALL customers!”
Given South Carolina’s 9.4% (and rising) unemployment rate, we continue to be astounded this is even an issue with state leaders. In any case, here’s a collection of tweets about “Chick-fil-A Day” in SC and elsewhere:
