Joe Wilson: Corporate PACs okay, union PACs no way

U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) displayed a sharp double standard toward the effects of unlimited campaign spending Thursday when a group of Occupy Columbia members crashed his legislative agenda preview event.

After protester Tim Liszewski asked Rep. Wilson for the congressman’s views on political action committees, Wilson said he shares protesters’ concerns — but only half of them, it seems. Union PACs are “a real threat in this country,” Wilson said, but corporate PACs simply even the field.

“If we didn’t have corporate PACs, the only thing we’d have are union bosses up in their beautiful skyscrapers directing politics,” Wilson said. But thankfully, corporate PACs now give CEOs a chance to direct politics from their beautiful skyscrapers too!

Of course, Rep. Wilson’s attitude toward corporate PACs wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that they’re the ones who give him money, right?  In Joe Wilson’s South Carolina, those CEOs just need a voice in this world where big business can’t seem to get a fair shake or representation.
